Sonlight Montessori-at-Home Preschool Curriculum Review

Sonlight Montessori-at-Home Preschool Curriculum Review

Montessori Inspired + Hands-On Preschool + Literature Rich

During my 15 years of teaching Montessori in the classroom and at home, I have always advocated for making Montessori more accessible to every Mom and Dad willing to listen. Montessori principles are so effective and beneficial to children that there is no need to confine these educational ideas to an overpriced classroom. Sonlight has been a respected curriculum provider for every subject from Pre-K to 12th grade. They just released their Preschool edition, and it includes so many Montessori elements we just had to try it out. I was thrilled with what I found inside our Sonlight box on delivery day, and I'm excited to share it with the world. This curriculum brings Montessori into the home for families everywhere, and Maria Montessori would be pleased!

The truth of the matter is that many Montessori snobs in the world of education believe that you should never attempt to teach it if you have not taken formal Montessori training. That's ridiculous. Sonlight Preschool has introduced a beautifully designed curriculum that translates the Montessori method into simple-to-understand units and activities. I have always been a Montessori minimalist, and I am so thrilled to share this set that I know will benefit families all over the world by inviting Montessori into their homes.

Literature is so crucial at this age. If they will let you read to them all day, do it! They are in a sensitive period of learning from age 2-4, where they absorb information like a sponge. If the attention span is short and lasts only 1 or 2 books, move on to a pre-writing, math, hands-on activity, or sound lesson. The curriculum kit contains:

  • 11 sensory numbers (0-10)

  • 26 sensory lower case print letters

  • 10 plastic geometric shapes with knobs and frames

  • large number flashcards 1-10

  • nylon knife

  • bingo markers

  • 12 colored pencils with grip

  • 6"x9" clipboard

  • child safety scissors

Of course, my favorite part is the Instructor's Guide, which is full of ideas for creative teaching, home and school organization, self-care, and curriculum plans for a three-day-a-week program. This is the perfect introduction to homeschool for any instructor, new or seasoned. I was also a big fan of the spiritual guidance and tips from the author. This instructor's guide is a great anchor and inspiration to the homeschool day!

I'm so in love with this curriculum, and I can see our family using many other Sonlight Curriculum in our future. I have not come across a curriculum I am more pleased with; it's that good! Montessori has always been near and dear to my heart, and I'm so happy to see those principles shine through in these materials. Language and literature immersion are so important at any age. I am delighted that Sonlight gives a lot of attention to the literature choices, especially for the preschool age! These are not baby books! The story is in-depth and comprehensive, with a very rich vocabulary. I could not recommend Sonlight Preschool Curriculum MORE!
