Organic Free Range Chicken and Sourdough Dumplings In the Instant Pot I Hill Country Homestead Texas

There is nothing more wholesome on a busy night than a one pot meal that is full of healing bone broth, healthy veggies and protein packed free range chicken. What’s even better is that it’s so simple and easy and will be on the table before the next toddler meltdown or teenager sports practice. The sourdough dumplings dropped on top complete this meal and keep everyone coming back for seconds. That means full bellies and a peaceful night for Mama, right? I like to keep it simple and minimal so here you are!

Instant Pot  ™, select SAUTE; adjust to normal. Melt butter in insert. Add onions, poultry seasoning and salt; cook 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Stir in celery and carrots. Stir in broth and   chicken  . Meanwhile, separate dough into 5 biscuits. Cut each biscuit into 8 pieces.

Makes: 8 Wholesome Servings

Ingredients:
  • half of an organic chicken, cooked and shredded
  • 2 Tbsp organic butter
  • 2 Tbsp organic Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup organic white wheat flour
  • 2 organic carrots chopped
  • 2 sticks of organic celery chopped
  • 1 organic medium white onion chopped
  • 32 ounces of organicc bone broth or organic chicken stock
  • 1 cup organic or raw milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the Dumplings + If you do not have any sourdough starter on hand see the dumpling recipe at bottom of the page

  • 2 cups organic white wheat flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 free range eggs
  • 4 Tablespoons organic olive oil
  • 2 Cups Sourdough starter
  • Instructions:
    1. Turn Instant Pot on Sautee and add oil to heat up
    2. Add in vegetables and cook for 10 minutes to soften
    3. Add butter and allow to melt
    4. Add in all remaining ingredients and stir briefly
    5. Set Instant Pot to Manual High Pressure, put lid on pot, seal the vent and set for 7 minutes
    6. When cycle is finished, release the steam valve
    7. Give it all a good stir and Set instant pot to simmer again
    8. Drop dollops of dumpling dough on top of instant pot mixture
    9. Simmer with dumplings added for 10 minutes or until desired doneness
    10. Enjoy!

    Here is a quick dumpling recipe if you need one in a pinch!

    Turn the pressure cooker on to the Sauté setting. Add the bay leaf, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, thyme, rosemary, and sage. Add the onion, carrot, and celery. Add the garlic and stir, cooking about 1 minute. Stir in the potato and the   chicken   broth. Add the   dumplings  . Place the lid on the   pot   and lock in place.
