Fabulous Elementary Fun With 'All Fish Faces' by Tam I Hill Country Homestead

I was compensated for your time and All opinions are honest. I was not required to post a positive review.

Fish have faces! I love how this book brings to life the expressions and personalities of the fish documented here. It creates the perfect setting for elementary children to draw in and learn about the different species in our oceans. The marine photography is so crisp and clear and gives the effect of looking directly into the fish’s face while learning all about the facts and behavior of each of the fish. Lincoln is a huge fan of wildlife and the natural world and exploring the ocean biome is particularly interesting because it isn’t a place we can readily explore ourselves, under the sea.

Marine Life Facts and Photos for Elementary Science

Fish Faces contains large and colorful pictures from deep-sea dives all over the world paired with easy to understand information and fun facts. Photography quality is so important in non-fiction materials to keep elementary readers actively engaged. The amount of color in the book is incredible and eye-catching and I love that the colors of the fish are so diverse! Fish Faces makes it so easy to keep Lincoln interested in hearing and learning about our deep sea friends. While reading the book the information about the fish compelled him to ask questions about what we just read, which is always a good sign!

Save the Ocean with Sustainability

No matter where you stand, taking care of the earth is important and something we talk to our children about daily. Tam includes facts, definitions, and information about various ways we can all do better for our planet and ultimately the ocean. Education is key to help young children understand while they may not see the damage done by a bit of trash on the ground at home, lots of waste usually ends up landing at the ocean. Polluting the land is just like polluting the ocean and certain things like single-use plastics, straws and plastic grocery bags should always be avoided. This helped spark conversations about why we do certain things in our family like take re-useable bags to the store and keep bamboo straws in the drawer. Lincoln was reminded that by doing these things we are helping keep our oceans clean for these special fish and that helps foster a sense of community responsibility for him.

Fish Faces Review Conclusion

This book is perfect for lower elementary students to gain an introduction to deep-sea fish species in a way that is colorful, interactive, and informative. I remember as a young child wanting to be a marine biologist, lofty, I know! This book would have been a wonderful resource to have access to at that age. Seeing Tam throughout the books adds a personal element to the book and gives first-hand insight to young readers as to what it may be like to explore the deep sea. It’s books like Fish Faces that will help educate the youngest generation and guide them in sustainable choices.
