Sustainable Texas Meat with 1915 Farm I Hill Country Homestead Texas

Organic as a label has been commercialized, stretched and somewhat abused over the past decade. Organic food as a textbook definition is ‘food produced by methods that comply with the standards of organic farming’ (Wikipedia). Standards vary worldwide, but organic farming features practices that cycle resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.  On our homestead we cook from scratch, pasture our own chicken and eggs, milk a goat every now and again, and keep show pigs.  Our diet as a family is notoriously organic but not by grocery store standards. Sourcing food products from farmers and ranchers who believe in sustainable livestock practices and conservation of the farmland is of utmost importance. Being able to shake the hand of the person behind the product is essential to food security in our modern day.  At 1915 Farm in South Texas, they do just that.

The Meat

Starting with cattle, Tanner and Catherine have since branched out to include pork and chicken as well. Flavor and nutrition are vital components when purchasing local and sustainable meats, and the cuts at 1915 are just that. The meat from 1915 Farm contains no nitrates, preservatives, antibiotics, or hormones.  The meat at 1915 is processed at USDA State-inspected facilities and each individual cut is vacuum sealed, comes in various bundles and shipped straight to your door! 1915 Farm offers free farm pickup, scheduled local delivery (Victoria & Corpus Christi TX), or shipped (Texas). It doesn’t get more convenient than your front step!

The People

Tanner and Catherine are a young couple who concern themselves with our current food system. They are passionate about providing their community with alternative meat choices by raising and finishing livestock in their natural environment - outdoors on pasture, instead of in factory farms or feedlots. Also, they have also spent the last three years stripping down the historic farmhouse on their property for a full-blown remodel, restoring the farmhouse to its original roots while living inside of it! They encourage customers to visit their farm to see the way our animals are being raised, and if you are in the Corpus Christi area for a vacation you may see Tanner or Catherine running around town delivering their high-quality boxes of meat! Read more about their story on 1915’s website and blog.

The Animals

Connecting with real people, farmers and ranchers is the best way to show support and use consumer power in a way to prevent small farms from disappearing. The transparency of our nations food production is becoming more and more blurry. This comes at the cost of our health, and the health of our soil and animals. When a consumer chooses to buy local and sustainable meats they aren't just eating well; those funds are helping to .restore the land, supporting real families and helping to preserve humane and sustainable livestock. These animals live out peaceful lives, the way the Lord designed it to be. Take a moment to meet and support Tanner and Catherine of 1915 Farm, and if you find yourself near the Gulf Coast stop by and tell them Hello!
